Mythology 101: A Class Fit for the Gods

Article and Photography by Tracy Angel

In the ethereal realm of Mount Olympus, where clouds danced and lightning bolts crackled, resided the almighty Zeus, King of the Gods. And amidst the celestial court, a mere mortal named Xavier Lafitte embarked on an extraordinary journey as Zeus’s personal assistant. Xavier, a young man of unparalleled intelligence and determination, had stumbled upon a secret portal that led to Mount Olympus. Intrigued by the legends of the gods, he ventured into their otherworldly abode. Fate intervened when he encountered Zeus himself, who, amused by him audacity, appointed him as his trusted assistant.

As the days turned into nights, Xavier immersed himself in the complexities of Olympian life. He witnessed the thunderous clashes of the Titans, marveled at the artistry of Hephaestus, and basked in the wisdom of Athena. Yet, amidst the grandeur, he also discovered the hidden struggles of the gods. Zeus, a formidable ruler burdened by the weight of his responsibilities, often confided in Xavier. He transcribed his decrees, aided him in resolving celestial disputes, and offered a mortal perspective that challenged his divine worldview. Through their interactions, a bond of mutual respect and understanding grew between them.

One fateful evening, as a particularly fierce storm raged across Olympus, Poseidon emerged from the depths of the sea, seeking Zeus’s aid. A colossal sea serpent, Leviathan, threatened to destroy the underwater kingdom. Zeus rallied his forces, but even with the combined might of the gods, they struggled to subdue the monstrous creature.

In that moment of desperation, Xavier remembered an ancient prophecy that spoke of a mortal who could summon the Kraken, a mythical sea monster capable of defeating Leviathan. With Zeus’s blessing, he returned to the mortal realm and sought out the legendary beast. Through his ingenuity and determination, Xavier forged an alliance with the Kraken, and together they returned to Olympus. As the fierce battle resumed, the Kraken’s colossal tentacles ensnared Leviathan, crushing its scales and sending it crashing into the abyss.

Triumph reverberated through Olympus, and Zeus bestowed upon Xavier the title of ‘God of the Mortal Realm.’ From that day forward, he served as a bridge between the heavens and the earth, ensuring balance and harmony between the realms. And so, the legend of Xavier Lafitte, the mortal who became Zeus’s assistant and saved Olympus, became an immortal tale whispered among gods and men alike, a testament to the extraordinary bonds that can transcend even the most celestial of divides.

Well it may not have been exactly like that but the class led you open to use your imagination! Attending the class personally, I give a big thumbs up and await the next chapter of Poseidon.
