New Year, New Opportunities at Woodcrest – Academic, Sports and Clubs

Submitted by: Griselda Martinez Longfall

With the start of a new year, Woodcrest is buzzing with fresh energy as classes resume and clubs begin to pick back up. Whether you are looking to expand your academic knowledge, stay active through sports, or connect with others who share your interests, there is something for everyone this season. Below is a guide to the current classes, sports, and clubs available at Woodcrest.

Academic Classes
Woodcrest offers a variety of engaging academic courses throughout the week. On Sundays, students can attend the Literature Course with Professor Wagstaff at 10 a.m., followed by Imagination In Motion with TA Griselda at 11 a.m. Mondays feature Eleanor’s Astronomy Class at 1 p.m., and beginning in February, a Performance Art Class led by Little K will be held every second Monday at 11 a.m.
For those interested in global studies, Geography is offered every Saturday at 11 a.m. While the Cyber Law class has sadly come to an end, Professor Saudade has plans to introduce a new course soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming announcements.

Sports and Fitness
Staying active is easy with Woodcrest’s range of sports and fitness classes. Coach Laci leads a Workout Class every Tuesday at 8 a.m. and a high-energy Zumba Class on Thursdays at 8 a.m. Cheer Practice takes place on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m., while Swim Practice is held on Fridays at 11 a.m.
Additionally, Smooches’ Self-Defense/Boxing Class meets on Saturdays at 2 p.m., offering a great way to build strength and confidence.

Clubs and Community
There are currently two clubs available for students looking to connect outside the classroom. The Poetry Club, Shakespeare’s Regret, meets every third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Campus Starpugs and is hosted by Allie and Griselda. Book lovers can join the Book Club, which meets every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. at the London Dock Starpugs.

Getting Involved
If you are interested in joining any of these classes, sports, or clubs, simply drop in on the days they are scheduled. Please note that Performance Art and Cheer both require tryouts. Don’t be intimidated—just reach out to the Performance Art instructor or one of the Cheer captains, and they will help you get started.
For those interested in teaching a class, starting a club, or leading a sport, applications are available at the Admissions Office, and someone will be in touch with you soon.
With so many opportunities available, the new year at Woodcrest is the perfect time to try something new, meet new people, and make the most of campus life.
