A Whirlwind Through Time: Performance Arts Class Delivers a Dazzling “History of Dance”

Written and photographed by Mandie Romano

The Performance Arts class truly outdid themselves on June 28th, presenting a vibrant and engaging “History of Dance” that left the audience thoroughly entertained. From the elegant waltz to the frenetic energy of a rave, the performance offered a captivating journey through dance styles and eras.

Each segment was meticulously crafted, showcasing not only the diverse styles but also the evolution of music and culture. The clever song choices amplified the impact of each dance, from the classic grace of the waltz set to “Les Valses de Vienne” to the infectious energy of the Charleston paired with the surprising choice of “Cantina Band.” Highlights included the fiery passion of the salsa danced to “Despacito” and the high-energy fun of the country line dance set to “Copperhead Road.” The choices for modern styles also resonated, with the Bachata fittingly set to “Sin Pijama” and the pulsating energy of the rave brought to life with “Rave in the Grave.”

A major strength of the performance was the choreography. It was clear that considerable thought and effort went into creating routines perfectly suited to each dance style. The dancers executed each step with precision and enthusiasm, truly embodying the spirit of each era. Stephanie Memerizer and Lil Kitten deserve special recognition for their outstanding performances and evident dedication.

The success of such a complex production is a testament to teamwork. The contributions of choreographers Bobb, Cyn, Roxie, Laci, Jakobi, and Allie were instrumental in bringing the vision to life. Their expertise and creativity shone through in each segment, adding a layer of authenticity and artistic flair.

The finale, a class-wide rendition of the “Macarena,” was the perfect culmination of the evening. It was infectious, fun, and left the audience buzzing with energy.

Overall, the Performance Arts class delivered a truly unforgettable experience. “History of Dance” was a testament to their talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit. Kudos to the entire class, the choreographers, and especially Stephanie Memerizer and Lil Kitten for putting on a top-notch performance that entertained and impressed. This is one class that consistently delivers!
