On Friday evening at 5:00 PM, students gathered inside Woodcrest University’s courtroom classroom for the debut of Law 101, led by Professor Brody Bourne. A practicing attorney from California, Professor Bourne brought charisma and courtroom insight to the role, promising a hands-on experience through a mock trial format.
From the first call of “Order in the Court,” students were engaged. The class centers on a fictional case involving fraternity antics, red Solo cups, and an anxious chicken; setting the stage for a creative and educational courtroom journey.
Professor Bourne outlined key roles in the trial: judge, attorneys, witnesses, and jurors. While he retained the role of judge himself, students stepped into various positions. Lazlo Hunter claimed the part of defendant Tommy Grant, with Alex Anissa FoXx serving as both prosecutor and witness Renoyd. Others joined as witnesses or jurors, depending on comfort and interest.
Though some roles like court clerk and bailiff were excluded for pacing, students were encouraged to approach their characters with dramatic flair and strategic thinking. Professor Bourne emphasized realism—plea deals, motions, and surprise witnesses were welcome, provided they made legal sense and were pre-approved.
Case materials will be distributed by Wednesday. Students will begin reviewing their roles and developing courtroom strategies before the next session.
With energy high and stakes set, Law 101 promises more than a lecture; it’s a courtroom in motion, guided by a professor determined to make law both educational and unforgettable.
