Spirit Week Geek Out Game Night Brings the Fun and the Funny

On Tuesday, May 13, the Quad transformed into a nostalgic playground for Woodcrest University’s Spirit Week “Geek Out Game Night,” hosted by the WU Student Council. From the moment you stepped into the glow of neon lights and the hum of laughter, it was clear this night was about one thing: pure, unapologetic fun.

Students showed up ready to game, dressed in graphic tees, cat ears, and cosplay accessories. Tables buzzed with the sounds of dice rolling, cards flipping, and lots of playful banter. Classic board games like “Cheesy” and “Cards Against Humanity” had full tables, and some students even rotated through arcade machines and quirky games like MadPea’s “Sausage Slam” and “Mighty Strike.” Whether you were here for strategy, sarcasm, or snacks, there was something for every kind of geek.

As the night unfolded, the Cards Against Humanity table drew a large crowd, and the competition was fierce though not too serious. Some responses had players laughing so hard they had to step away, according to one attendee. Others were simply glad to be included and appreciated the warm, welcoming atmosphere, especially those attending for the first time. Nearby, students posed at the photo booth, grabbed pizza and wings from the buffet, and took turns at arcade punch machines, racking up high scores between rounds of cheering each other on. The energy spiked during a tense round of Cards as the crowd leaned in, captivated by the escalating competition.

But maybe the best part was watching friends playfully accuse each other of cheating at the board games or laugh about bots and bizarre SLife moments, like earning virtual tips at a club. It was chaotic, hilarious, and incredibly heartwarming. Even those who didn’t play stuck around for the atmosphere, snapping photos and soaking in the energy. Some even finding themselves in unexpected situations, like accidentally sitting on a bot.

Game Night was a reminder that being a geek isn’t about trivia or strategy. It’s about showing up, letting go, and having fun with your friends. Judging by the cheers, groans, and high fives echoing through the room, this Spirit Week event was nothing short of a critical hit.
