Woodcrest University’s Rush Week Wednesday evening brought a flurry of activity—literally—as the DAM Fraternity hosted “The Snowball,” a lighthearted event featuring a campus-wide snowball fight. With freshly fallen snow blanketing the grounds, the event drew students eager to trade stress for laughter and icy projectiles. Followed by a dance party DJ’d by DJ Guinness Moretti.
DAM President Thomas Evans spoke with me shortly after the festivities concluded. Though still catching his breath, he enthusiastically shared the inspiration behind the event. Thomas admitted ”The Snowball” portion of the event was a last-minute idea. He said that the recent dip in temperatures and snowfall in Woodcrest helped DAM decided a good old-fashioned snowball fight was in order. He hoped it would help get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
The sight of bundled-up students running, dodging, and hurling snowballs seemed to achieve exactly that. When asked how pelting each other with snowballs encouraged holiday cheer, Thomas chuckled and shared that, after the stress of Black Friday and holiday shopping, a little controlled mayhem helped people let off steam. He added that running around in the cold winter air and engaging in a friendly snowball fight was a fun way to create memorable college experiences.
For DAM, “The Snowball” wasn’t just a chance to blow off steam but also an opportunity to highlight the fraternity’s camaraderie and invite potential new members to experience their unique spirit. As part of Rush Week, the event reflected DAM’s broader goals for the season. Thomas emphasized that DAM’s focus during Rush was always to find great men to join their brotherhood and to showcase how the fraternity fostered a strong sense of community. He believed that as long as they were achieving this, Rush Week was a success.
The snowball fight began promptly at 5 PM, with participants diving headlong into the playful chaos. By 6 PM, the action had tapered off, leaving rosy-cheeked students laughing and brushing snow off their coats. DJ Guinness Moretti finished out the event, playing music for everyone on a dance floor set up outside the Performing Arts building.
Thomas told me that he had spent an hour in ‘gaming mode,’ “Running around, dodging snowballs, and trying to aim and hit someone,” Thomas said with a laugh. “It was worth it, though. The energy was incredible, and it was great to see everyone letting loose.” Though “The Snowball” was just one event in a packed Rush Week lineup, it captured the festive, lighthearted atmosphere DAM aims to cultivate. As the fraternity continues its recruitment efforts, Thomas remains optimistic about the turnout and the memories made along the way.
Whether or not you walked away from Wednesday’s snowball fight with frostbitten fingers or a perfectly aimed snowball to the back, one thing is certain: “The Snowball” has solidified itself as a big hit—and a testament to the creativity and camaraderie of Woodcrest University’s DAM Fraternity.
