On the evening of November 11, 2024, the Iron Horse Saloon reverberated with the electrifying sounds of Metal Mayhem. The heavy metal set, masterfully spun by DJ Deidre (Didi) Farrell D’Morgann, turned the venue into a haven for metal enthusiasts. Known for her skillful curation of music, DJ Didi also headlines the Blues Night at the same venue, showcasing her versatility and connection to Woodcrest’s vibrant music scene.

For those familiar with DJ Didi’s history, her return to metal was more than just a setlist; it was a homecoming. Before enrolling at Woodcrest, DJ Didi was a fixture in the metal scene, spinning at countless venues with none other than me as her hostess. Her passion for the genre and her knack for bringing people together were legendary. It was DJ Didi who encouraged me to enroll at Woodcrest, making this event a poignant blast from the past for both of us.

Metal Mayhem was supported by Adam Spade, owner of the Iron Horse Saloon, who is ever open to new events that promise to bring in a crowd. The event drew an enthusiastic audience who rocked out to iconic tracks from bands like Slayer, Alien Weaponry, and Amon Amarth. Beer cans were strewn across the floor, a testament to the sheer revelry of the night. The crowd packed tightly onto the floor, moving their bodies in unison to the heavy rhythms that pulsed through the venue. The energy was palpable as every riff and beat seemed to draw the audience deeper into the music.

With DJ Didi back in her element and a crowd that embraced every riff and beat, Metal Mayhem proved to be an unforgettable night of headbanging and camaraderie. The evening wasn’t just about the music; it was a celebration of the unifying power of metal and the rich tapestry of talent that Woodcrest fosters. As the last song faded into a wall of cheers and applause, the sense of connection in the room was undeniable. Strangers became friends over shared love for metal, and the Iron Horse buzzed with stories of the night’s unforgettable moments. The event left a lasting impression as metal brought the Woodcrest community together in a way only music can.
