On Friday, October 11, 2004, the Sigma Epsilon Chi fraternity hosted the “Adopt a Pooch or Pussy” pet adoption drive on the Woodcrest University quad. The event, a massive hit among students and staff, was the brainchild of the fraternity’s pledges, organized as part of their pledge tasks.
The adoption drive connected local shelters with students and residents, allowing them to adopt pets needing loving homes. With dozens of dogs and cats on-site, students could interact with the animals and possibly adopt a furry companion.
Pledge Master Rai Alto expressed his pride in the pledges’ initiative. “When the Pledges found out that the local agencies were struggling with emptying out some of the cages, this was their bright idea, especially since so many students live in places that allow pets. Hopefully, some pets can find loving homes, and this will allow agencies to continue to do good in the future.”
Many students displayed great enthusiasm for the event, commenting on how the presence of animals brightened their day, and some took the next step in choosing to adopt. This event helped animals find homes and raised awareness of the importance of supporting local shelters. For many in attendance, the pet adoption drive served as a reminder of the bond between humans and animals.
