Delta Alpha Mu Leads Beach Cleanup at London Docks

Article by Bobb Dragoone and Thomas Evans

On October 13, 2024, the brothers of Delta Alpha Mu (DAM) fraternity spent their Sunday making a positive environmental impact by organizing a beach cleanup at London Docks Beach.

Armed with gloves, trash bags, and determination, the fraternity brothers joined forces to remove plastic debris, discarded tires, and other waste from the popular waterfront area. The cleanup, which lasted several hours, was part of DAM’s collaboration with the Adopt A Beach program of the non-profit organization, Keep Massachusetts Beautiful. After the event, a sign was unveiled promoting DAM’s ongoing commitment to preserving Woodcrest’s natural shoreline.

“This isn’t just about cleaning up the beach for today,” said chapter president Thomas Evans. “We want to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of our natural spaces and inspire others to take action. It is important to promote environmental sustainability.”

The fraternity collected over 200 pounds of trash. Many beach goers stopped to thank the volunteers, and some even joined in to help. DAM fraternity plans to continue their community service initiatives throughout the year, including tree planting events and partnerships with regional nonprofits. “Every little effort counts,” Thomas added. “If we all pitch in, we can make a real difference.”

The event not only left London Docks Beach cleaner but also reinforced the fraternity’s dedication to promoting positive change both on campus and in the surrounding community.
