Christmas at Woodcrest: Harry Potter Movie Marathon Brings Campus Together

On Christmas Day, Woodcrest University opened its doors and its heart to students with a magical Harry Potter Movie Marathon held in the school gymnasium. Beginning promptly at 12:00 noon and running nearly straight through until almost 10:00 a.m. the following morning on, the event offered students a place of comfort, community, and belonging during the holiday season.

The marathon featured back to back Harry Potter films, drawing a steady flow of attendees throughout the entire event. While people came and went as schedules allowed, the turnout remained strong, with many students staying for several movies at a time and some even making it through most of the marathon. The gymnasium buzzed with laughter, reactions to favorite scenes, and shared nostalgia as students bonded over the beloved wizarding world.

The space itself was transformed into a cozy, Harry Potter themed haven. The gym was decorated in house colors, complete with tents and blankets representing Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. The atmosphere felt less like a school gym and more like a magical common room, encouraging students to settle in, relax, and enjoy the experience together.

Adding to the immersion were Harry Potter themed food and drinks, which helped keep energy high throughout the long hours. From sweet treats to warm beverages, the refreshments added an extra layer of comfort and fun to the overnight marathon.

More than just a movie event, the marathon was created with a meaningful purpose in mind. Organized by Woodcrest University students Lazlo Hunter, Nate Vosse and Minky Vonfer, the event aimed to provide a safe and welcoming space for students who couldn’t go home for the holidays or had nowhere else to be. For many, it offered a sense of family and togetherness during a time that can otherwise feel isolating.

Special thanks go to Lazlo, whose dedication and technical expertise made the event possible by setting up and managing the AV portion of the marathon. His hard work ensured the movies ran smoothly from start to finish.

Woodcrest University would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make the event feel like being with family. This Harry Potter Movie Marathon truly embodied the spirit of community, warmth, and magic that defines Woodcrest.
