Warm Nights and Gentle Goodbyes with DOE

Griselda Martinez-Longfall

On day seven of Woodcrest Summer RUSH, the ladies of Delta Omicron Epsilon (DOE) brought the week to a close with their heartfelt farewell bonfire. Tucked away in the quiet embrace of the forest, the scene was nothing short of magical. A large, crackling bonfire stood at the center, casting a soft amber glow across smiling faces, while their house DJ filled the night with some great tunes that seemed to float effortlessly through the air.

Guests trickled in, drawn to the inviting warmth, some carrying plates with food from the generous spread—everything from savory bites to sweet, comforting treats. Laughter mingled with the music as old friends shared stories from the week, and new acquaintances found themselves chatting as if they’d known each other for years. Every now and then, the soft hum of conversation would pause as a particularly good song played, or as a burst of sparks danced skyward from the fire.

Nature itself seemed to join the celebration—wildflowers swayed gently in the evening breeze, fireflies floated lazily through the air, and the strings of lights above created a cozy, starlit canopy. Some guests swayed to the rhythm, moving together in small, unhurried dances, while others sat on wooden benches, simply soaking in the moment.

After the whirlwind of RUSH—days filled with activities, introductions, and anticipation—this night felt like a deep, collective exhale. It was a space to slow down, to let the joy of the week settle in, and to savor these last carefree hours before life’s responsibilities returned.

As the night wound down, the fire burned lower, its embers glowing softly against the dark. People lingered, reluctant to leave the warmth of both the flames and the friendships they had strengthened or formed.

Thank you, DOE, for gifting us an evening that was more than just a farewell—it was a reminder of the beauty in slowing down, connecting, and finding tranquility together under the summer night sky.
