Sci-Fi Spirit Day Blasts Off With a Star Wars Classic

Article and photography by Alex FoXx

On Saturday, May 17, students gathered in a galaxy not so far away, right at the heart of our campus for one of the most electrifying Spirit Week events yet: Sci-Fi Spirit Day featuring a screening of Star Wars: A New Hope. From 12 to 2 PM, the outdoor theater transformed into a cinematic universe full of glowing green seats, neon UFOs, and the unmistakable hum of lightsabers echoing through the air.

Attendees were encouraged to come dressed in their best space-inspired outfits, and they did not disappoint. From stormtroopers and alien glam girls to Starfleet officers and cyborg cuties, the creativity was out of this world. Even the seating area felt galactic, with plush green pods arranged under a sky full of stars, creating the perfect setup for a sci-fi showdown between good and evil.

Once the iconic opening crawl rolled across the screen, cheers broke out. From the moment Princess Leia appeared with her signature cinnamon-bun hair to the comedic aimlessness of the stormtroopers, laughter and excitement filled the air.

It wasn’t just a movie. It was a celebration of imagination, connection, and shared love for all things space. Sci-Fi Spirit Day reminded us that no matter how far away the galaxy may seem, it only takes a little creativity and maybe a green beanbag chair to bring it home.

May the Force be with us. Always.
