2024 Student Council Handover

Article by Griselda Martinez-Longfall

On Monday, November 18, 2024, Hanako Blossom officially stepped down as Student Council President, passing the torch to President-Elect Mandie Romano during a formal handover ceremony.

Mandie’s first order of business was to propose a new panel for the 2024 Student Council. She recommended: Abbie Vicious for vice president, Gwen Winchester—a Tri Pi pledge—for secretary, Thomas Evans, the president of Delta Epsilon Mu (DAM), for treasurer, and Adam Spade, also from DAM, for social chair. The proposed appointments were met with unanimous approval, except for one lighthearted moment. Bobb, a fellow DAM brother, jokingly raised his hand as if to indicate interest in the treasurer position. Although it was clear he wasn’t serious, Lexi Skydancer formally nominated him for the role. Bobb graciously declined, citing his lack of qualifications and expressing confidence in Thomas Evans’ ability to excel in the position. In response, Mandie extended an invitation for Bobb to join the council meetings as an observer, providing him with an opportunity to learn and gain experience without holding an official title.

During the meeting, there was also discussion about upcoming events, particularly the much-anticipated Spirit Week. Due to various challenges, Spirit Week was canceled this year, leaving many disappointed. However, the council confirmed plans to bring it back in the spring, promising a revitalized Woodcrest Beaver Pride Spirit Week. The announcement was met with excitement and anticipation. Students were reminded to stay informed about upcoming council meetings, which will be scheduled monthly at the discretion of the president. Updates will be shared through both the Woodcrest calendar and the official Discord server. Let’s all look forward to an exciting spring and a productive year under the new leadership!
