“Five Days”

Poetry by Anonymous

It’s been five days since I said goodbye to you,
Five days since I decided to close the door,
Five days since I chose not to let you hurt me anymore.

Five long and agonizing days,
Days where I felt everything — love, hate, anger…
And today I returned to that place where I once told you goodbye,
The rain is still there, the flowers and plants too,
And for a second, I saw us again, you and me, sitting…

Ghosts, that’s what I saw…
Echoes of a life that was and will no longer be,
Echoes of you and me.

I wonder, how did we hurt each other so much?
And no matter how much I think and reflect, I find no answer.
At what moment did everything go so wrong?

It’s been five days since I took you out of my life,
Five days since I was able to breathe again,
Five days since I made the right decision.

Yet suddenly, the days have less color,
The flowers don’t seem as beautiful,
The wind bothers me, and the rain feels like it hurts.

Everything passes, and this will pass too…
But in the meantime… it’s been five days since I said goodbye to you.
