BYOB (Bring Your Own Book): Not your Average Book Club

Article by Mandie Romano

The BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) club held its inaugural meeting on Thursday, September 5th, at the cozy Beaver Bistro, a setting that perfectly complements this unique gathering. Future meetings are scheduled for the first Thursday of each month at 6 PM (SLT), promising a consistent opportunity for book lovers to connect.

I was honored to represent The Beaver Pride during this first meeting, where I had the chance to observe and listen to the lively discussions. Unlike conventional book clubs that often dictate reading lists, BYOB stands out as a haven for personal choice, encouraging members to explore their individual interests. The brainchild behind this innovative club is Loneleigh, a prominent figure within The Beaver Pride and the owner of The Loneleigh Petal.

As members began to arrive, I noticed the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The initial group was small yet filled with enthusiasm, diving into conversations about their favorite books, preferred genres, and authors who have sparked their imaginations. It was enlightening to hear about the various books that attendees were currently engrossed in, and it became clear that many favored the tactile experience of a physical book over digital formats. While some embraced the convenience of audiobooks, the prevailing sentiment leaned towards the pages of a traditional novel. This variety in reading preferences added richness to the discussions, highlighting the diverse tastes among members.

With our next meeting scheduled for October 3rd, I’m eager to see more people join for this unique book club experience. BYOB goes beyond just books; it’s about fostering a community of readers who share a love for literature. Whether you’re passionate about reading or looking to explore new titles, this club invites you in with warmth.

Regardless of your preferred genre or reading style, BYOB is an ideal setting to connect with others and find motivation in the literary world. You’ll have the chance to meet new faces, and you might even recognize a few familiar ones. If you’re new to Woodcrest University, this gathering is a wonderful opportunity to meet others and potentially make a new friend.
