Moonlight and Mayhem: MEH’s Rooftop Rager

Article and Photography by Ryder Watanabe

The MEH rooftop party on Friday night lived up to its reputation as the most anticipated event of the summer semester. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the three-story brownstone came alive with pulsating beats and the excited chatter of dozens of students.

The rooftop, transformed into an urban escape, featured a makeshift dance floor surrounded by twinkling string lights. A DJ booth occupied one end of the roof, built on top of an old cargo van (how did they get it up there?), while the opposite end boasted a fully stocked bar manned by members of the current MEH iteration.

Partygoers jammed onto every available bit of rooftop, filling the space with a kinetic energy that seemed to make the building itself vibrate. Girls in crop tops and high-waisted skirts mingled with brothers sporting bathrobes in some instances, all swaying to the latest remixes.

As the night progressed, the party’s energy only intensified. A group of dancers swarmed around our very own Dean, who did a fantastic job, making one wonder what exactly he does when locked up in his office.

The city skyline provided a glittering backdrop to the revelry, a reminder of the world that existed beyond this momentary escape into collegiate hedonism.  While some neighbors grumbled about the noise, most accepted it as part of campus life. As dawn approached, the last stragglers made their way home, already looking forward to next year’s MEH rooftop extravaganza.
