In defiance of the lingering summer heat, students and the broader Woodcrest community gathered in joyful droves, drawn by the magnetic pull of the sororities and fraternities that had woven their vibrant tapestry of revelry throughout the week. The culmination of these exuberant days was celebrated in the time-honored tradition of a bonfire, kindled with care on the ancient stone sidewalk before the stately Liberal Arts Building. Soft, inviting logs and pillows beckoned the weary to rest, offering solace to those drained by the week’s spirited excesses.
As the flames flickered to life, a mischievous pledge from Delta Alpha Mu seized the moment with playful audacity, unfurling a grand banner that proclaimed, “DAM Rules!” above the assembled crowd. The crowd’s laughter echoed under the night sky, as the banner sparked a lively exchange of jests, each house championing its own supremacy in the friendly rivalry.
The bonfire, though modest in size, exuded a warmth that gently eased the evening’s cooling air, while the sisters of Tri Pi sorority swept their electrifying dance to the grassy expanse beside their vibrant recruiting tent. Like moths to a flame, students and townsfolk alike drifted away from the glowing Rush tents, irresistibly drawn to the lively gathering where music, movement, and merriment reigned supreme.
And then, with a flair that could only belong to her, Bunny Fenmore, the revered President of Tri Pi, ascended to her DJ booth. She morphed effortlessly into the charismatic DJ Bun Bun, whose skillful hands wove a sonic tapestry that wrapped the crowd in its thrumming embrace. As the pulsating beats of AFI, Coheed and Cambria, and My Chemical Romance, among others, filled the air, the night unfurled into a symphony of energy, as feet moved in joyous unison, and spirits soared high like the flames that danced in the night.
And so, beneath the watchful gaze of the emerging stars and the flickering bonfire’s glow, Summer Rush at Woodcrest University came to a close, leaving behind a trail of memories as warm and enduring as the embers that lingered long after the final note had faded.
