Summerween at Camp Whisperwood: A Night to Remember

Article and Photography by Loneleigh Resident

The Summerween event kicked off with an eerie yet enchanting start at the historic Camp Whisperwood. As the bus pulled up to the campsite, the students disembarked with eager anticipation, some carrying bags filled with additional clothing and tents for the overnight adventure. Their breath misted in the cool air, mingling with the natural fog that hung like a shroud over the cemetery. The air was thick with excitement as they made their way to the makeshift dance floor amidst the gravestones. Whispers of the campsite’s haunted history floated among the students, adding an extra thrill to the evening.

The two-hour-long dance began with a set from Rowan “Toxx” Edgewood, a new Sigma pledge, who energized the crowd with his electrifying beats. The thumping bass echoed through the trees, mingling with the distant calls of nocturnal creatures. Rowan’s music seemed to awaken the spirits of the cemetery, as if the very ground beneath the students’ feet pulsed with life. Following Toxx, Poe Davonius took over, her haunting melodies perfectly complementing the ghostly surroundings.  Shadows danced along the crypt walls, flickering in the dim light of lanterns.

As the music played and the students danced, a different kind of excitement was brewing near the food and drinks table. Celina, a petite girl with a determined glint in her eye, approached the table stealthily. With everyone engrossed in the music and dance, she seized the moment. Checking to make sure no one was watching, she sprinkled a strange dust over the pizzas and beer. Unbeknownst to the others, this dust was a peculiar type of LSD. The dust, fine as powdered sugar, glimmered faintly in the moonlight before settling invisibly on the food and drinks. The students, oblivious to Celina’s actions, continued to revel in the music, their laughter and cheers filling the night air.

The party continued with the students blissfully unaware of the adulteration. As they consumed the food and drinks, the hallucinogenic effects began to take hold. The initial sensations were subtle—a slight tingling in the limbs, a sense of euphoria. The ancient trees surrounding the cemetery appeared to dance, their branches swaying in time with the music. With the students under the spell of the hallucinogens, the event transformed into a fantastical, otherworldly celebration, blending reality and illusion in the most unexpected ways. The ghostly music, the dancing shadows, and the spectral visions made for an unforgettable experience. The evening ended with students sharing stories of their extraordinary visions, ensuring that Summerween at Camp Whisperwood would be whispered about in hushed tones for years to come.
